CLASSES & PRACTICAL INFORMATION

Frequently asked

Is Music Monkeys the same as other music classes for young children?

Not quite. Our classes focus primarily on your child’s musical development. Some of our songs are sung without words, allowing children to focus fully on the music. We introduce them to rich and varied music featuring different tonalities, modes and metres. We draw from world music, classical music and jazz, among other styles. There is also room for silence and for your child’s own ideas and responses.

I can’t attend every scheduled class. Can I make up a missed class?

Yes. If you are unable to attend because of illness, a holiday or another reason, you can join the class from home via Google Meet or make it up in another group. You can book make-up classes throughout the school year, provided your membership is still active. You can arrange this yourself through our app.

Can my child attend a trial class?

Yes, they can. For group classes, we offer two trial classes for €30. You can attend both classes with the same group or try two different groups or teachers. For private instrumental lessons, a single trial lesson is available for €35. If you are sure you would like to continue with the same group, you can register immediately without taking trial classes.

Can I cancel the membership if we cannot attend for the entire year?

Yes. You pay monthly and can cancel your child’s membership by emailing admin@musicmonkeys.nl at least one month in advance.

My child’s age fits more than one group. Which one should I choose?

Our groups are organised according to age and developmental stage. As every child develops at their own pace, some age ranges overlap. For example, the baby group is particularly suitable for children who are not yet walking. If your child is already walking, the next group will probably be a better fit. Feel free to contact us if you are unsure.

At what age can a child start learning to play an instrument?

This varies depending on the child and the instrument. Our teachers offer piano and violin lessons from around the age of four and a half, although individual lessons are not yet the best fit for every child at that age. Many children benefit from first developing their general musical skills in a group. Parent-and-child classes are available for younger children from the age of four months.

Can I pay for the music classes with an Ooievaarspas?

Yes. Children under the age of four receive a 50% discount, while children aged four and over may be eligible for a 100% discount. Select the Ooievaarspas option when registering and the discount will be applied. Please bring the pass to the first class so that we can scan it. The pass must be scanned again every three months.

The school year has already started. Can we still join?

Yes, you can join at any time during the school year, provided there is a place available in a group. If you start after the first day of the month, you will only pay for the remaining part of that month.

Some months only have three classes. Do I still pay the full monthly fee?

Yes. You pay the same amount each month. Some months have three classes, while others have four or five. The monthly fee is based on an average of 37 classes spread over ten payment months. There is no payment in July.

My child was ill several times. Can we receive a refund?

We are unable to refund class fees. However, you can make up missed classes on another day while your membership remains active.

Can we change groups?

Yes. You can change to another group if a place is available, for example when your child gets older or your work schedule changes.

Can both parents attend the class?

No, each child attends with one accompanying adult. Two adults can distract your child and make the group too busy.

My child is four but is not yet ready to attend a class without a parent. Can I join them?

Parents do not stay in the classroom during our classes for children aged four to six. If your child is not yet ready for this, you can choose our parent-and-child group for children aged four to five. This is a transitional group in which an accompanying adult still joins the class.

Do we need to have our own musical instruments?

Instruments are not essential: you can make plenty of music using your voice, movement and everyday materials. However, real instruments make the experience even more enjoyable and educational. New members therefore receive a Music Monkeys music bag containing basic instruments and materials. Piano students can borrow a keyboard from us.
